August Cheese of the Month: Mrs Bell’s Salad Cheese
The cheese that changed its name...twice!
Our Mrs Bell’s Salad Cheese is a cheese with a rich history that showcases both the artistry and innovation of local speciality cheesemaking in the UK and the challenges of European food naming regulations.
First created by our Judy back in 1989, the name may have changed but the quality and deliciousness, has remained the same throughout.
Made exclusively from 100% British sheep milk, it started life as Yorkshire Feta, before changing to Fettle in 2008 after "Feta" was awarded a Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) by the European Commission. Finally, more recently, after our campaigning to support the sheep milk farmers in the pandemic, we had to change it again. You can read the full on that story here.
Made exclusively from 100% British sheep milk
Handmade and hand-salted by our skilled team to encourage the pleasant, lemony flavour and slightly crumbly texture, it's the perfect cheese to add to summer salads and side dishes, but has a thousand other delicious uses all year round. A true everyday fridge staple!
