This is Yorkshire’s answer to the traditional Mediterranean-style salad cheese, lovingly crafted by Judy Bell and her team since 1987. It’s a versatile and easy-to-enjoy cheese perfect on a cheeseboard, crumbled into a salad, or featured in your favourite dish.
Handmade with whole ewes’ milk, we carefully hand-salt each cheese to develop its piquant, lemony flavour and slightly crumbly texture. It’s matured for a minimum of two weeks, allowing the salt to infuse the cheese evenly. After maturing, we hand-slice and wrap, or hand-wax each piece, locking in its fresh flavor and creamy texture as it continues to mature in our stores until perfectly ready.
Originally known by another name, we renamed it Yorkshire Fettle in 2008 when Greece received PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) status for Feta. Then, in 2022, we gave it its current name Mrs Bell’s Salad Cheese in tribute to our remarkable founder, Judy Bell.
Mrs Bell’s Salad Cheese holds a special place in our story: it was Judy’s very first creation, made in 1987 and launched as a product in 1989. Since then, it has earned international awards and even featured on Paul Hollywood's BBC One program Pies & Puds.
